For the past decade I have been asking various musicians to record lyrics I've penned, under the name of the Poor Man's Jazz Band.

Our first recording session featured William Lohse at piano, a lawyer from Reno turned musician, and a long time friend. On Trumpet, Rich Batek showed up with his usual grin and flair for the moment, adding the warmth of his horn and humor; Sam Minae on bass, then just a teenager, Barry Puhlovski on percussion, straight from Croatia, and Adrian Justice on flute, clarinet and sax. We recorded live in a one room studio with a dozen microphones and whatever insanity we deemed necessary for the occasion: thus 2AM and 4th Street was born on a quick afternoon. The madness of the afternoon is best described on the Miles standard, So What, to which I added the lyrics of a man trying his best pick up lines, as Barry's girlfriend, Anna, answered, So What!

A couple of years later I recorded my lyrics again, with my life long friend, Lou DeSerio at the piano; the boy from Brooklyn, photographer, writer, musician, that had come to Reno in his twenties. He left his family in Sedona to fly up for the session, we had threatened to record together for nearly thirty years, and finally at fifty, made the leap. Sam Minae, Barry Puhlovski and Adrian Justice, once again made the gig. We created 'Looking For The Cure,' which featured the original tunes of Lou DeSerio and Eric Stangeland's three guitar tunres, Ode To The Ex, My God and Full Time Lawyer. Eric and I recorded those three one afternoon in a couple of hours. Jill Snyder's beautiful voice, saving the tune on 'My God,' was added a couple days later. Under The Radar was a solo piano album that Lou had recorded twenty years before, which I listened to for over a year and added the lyrics that seemed to work best with each piece. Again, Adrian, Sam and Barry were recorded on separate tracks, after the lyrics were laid. The music was then used for the soundtrack to the movie, Under The Radar, which I had been working on for several years.

Not For Everyone was my latest effort, recorded in July of 2007, to the music of Kevin Stewart, a gifted young pianist from Reno. Kevin brought with him, Rufus on percussion, Larry Waller on alto saxophone, Dave Edwards on bass, and again my lyrics and vocals. That album will be used as the soundtrack to the 'Trial of Diogenes,' a novel I'm now finishing, 690 pages on the last draft of a 750 page insanity, that will be turned into a screen play over the next couple of years. Ten years of hard work and pure joy are here for your listening pleasure, may the Gods be with you.
