BEFORE
These
are the walls I must leave behind;
The
broken path that I must climb;
Beyond
the words or my own state of mind:
Before
there were rules, or schools of thought;
Before
we debated what was, and what was not;
Before
there were wars, before the excuses,
Before
all the lies, and all Man’s abuses.
Before
there was me, before there was you;
Before
there was old, before there was new;
Before
things were real, before things were true.
Before
there was gravity; before there was light;
Before
there was day, before there was night.
Before
time had anything to do;
When
God was an atom, and we were so few.
Beyond
the sacred, the holy, everything we knew;
Before
there was sun, or skies that turned blue.
Before
the concept of sin;
Before
we could lose, before we could win;
That’s
where I’m going, that’s where I’ve been.
Before
religion, infinity, or man.
Before
there was anything to understand;
Before
any of this ever began.
Before
there was time, before there was space;
Before
eternity or any other place.
To
leave it all behind, without a trace;
Before
God was given a face.
To
the lover of lovers,
To
the soul of my soul, which I must embrace.
